Dr. Jose Luis Ruiz

Dr. Ruiz is the founder and Director of the Los Angeles Institute of Clinical Dentistry, and former Director of the “University of Southern California’s Esthetic Dentistry Continuum” from 2004-2009. He is an honorary clinical professor at Warwick University in England and member of the editorial board for Dentistry Today. He is an Associate Instructor at Dr. Gordon Christensen’s PCC in Utah, as well as an independent evaluator of dental products for CR. He is Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Ruiz was named as one of the “Leaders in CE in 2005-2015” by Dentistry Today.

Dr. Ruiz has published several research papers as well as many clinical articles on adhesive dentistry, occlusion and esthetic dentistry. He regularly lectures at all major dental meetings, nationally and internationally.

Dr. Ruiz currently practices full time in the practice he has had for over 20 years in the studio district of Los Angeles. His focus is on treating complex Cosmetic, Rehabilitation, and Implant cases.

Dr. Ruiz has made numerous television appearances highlighting his Esthetic Dental makeovers, including NBC Channel 4 News, ABC’s Vista La and Channel 52’s Telemundo. He lectures nationally and internationally and has published multiple articles on Cosmetic Dentistry, Occlusion and Team Leadership.

 

Dr Bernice Ko

Dr Bernice Ko was the former Course Director of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Endodontic Continuum Lec-ture and Hands-on Workshop for the past 16 years. This course has successfully served both local and foreign general dentists since 1997 in their day to day endodontic clinical procedures.

She received her dental degree and completed her postgraduate training in Hospital Dentistry and Endodontics at UCLA. Dr. Ko is a Diplomate with the American Board of Endodontics and is a Lecturer with the Section of Endodontics & Special Patient Care at UCLA. Dr. Ko was the former Director of the UCLA Postdoctoral Endodon-tics Program providing advanced training to residents in their endodontic didactic, laboratory, clinical and research curriculum. She was also the former President of the Southern California Academy of Endodontics and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society, UCLA School of Dentistry Chapter.

Presently, she maintains an Endodontic-Periodontic private practice in West Los Angeles, California with Dr. Thien Nguyen, Dr. Todd Yamada and Dr. Daraporn Tanpattana.

Dr. Smiler graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dentistry in 1964. He attended Boston University, Graduate School of Dentistry, earning a Masters of Science degree in 1968. Following an internship and residency in oral surgery at Roosevelt Hospital, New York, he returned to California in 1969, establishing his oral surgery practice in Los Angeles and Encino.

Dr. Smiler is an educator of dental implantology. He has published numerous articles in the dental professional literature and contributed to periodicals and text books. He lectures extensively and participates in symposiums throughout the country and internationally at universities and implant conferences. Doctors from around the world attend his seminars and live surgical demonstrations to recieve training in dental implantology.

Dr. Samuel LeeDrSamuelLee

Dr. Samuel Lee is a Diplomate of American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry. Dr. Samuel Lee is a graduate of Harvard School of Dental Medicine in specialty degree in Periodontology, and has earned his Doctor of Medical Science.  He has invented ultra low dosage 3d imaging technique while at Harvard, and has obtained US patent.  Dr Lee grew up in California.  After completing his bachelorʼs degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at UCLA, Dr. Samuel Lee furthered his studies in Dentistry from the UCLA School of Dentistry. He then practiced implant dentistry and orthodontics in a private practice in Buena Park, California.  He has won the 1st Award at many prestigious organization: The 2008 American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) Table Clinic Presentation, the 2007 American Orthodontic Society (AOS), and the 2007 International Congress of Oral Implantologists(ICOI).   He is the inventor of "Crestal Window Sinus Grafting Technique," and own the patent on his sinus instruments. He currently teaches internationally on his sinus techniques and TAD to specialists, general dentist, and dental schools.

 

 

 

Dr. Mathew CheslerCheslerpic

Endodontics

Dr. Matthew Chesler is a native of Wayzata, Minnesota, near the·Twin Cities. After high school, he left the “frozen tundra” behind for sunnier days in Southern California, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at UCSD and then moved on to USC School of Dentistry for his DDS degree in 2004. During his studies he received a faculty award for excellence in Endodontics.

While at USC, Dr. Chesler received a full scholarship from the US Navy. He first reported for active duty to Camp Pendleton where he completed a one year residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry. Shortly afterwards, he became one of the youngest residents to ever be selected for the Endodontics residency program at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda, MD. He completed the program in 2008 and concurrently earned a postdoctoral Master of Science degree from The George Washington University, Washington, DC.

After graduation, he reported to Pearl Harbor, Hawai’i as the Endodontics department head. Lieutenant Commander Chesler was transferred back to the San Diego area in early 2011 where he served as the head of the Endodontics department at Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar. In 2015 he separated from the Navy after eleven years of active duty, but is currently a naval reservist.

Dr. Chesler has remained academically active. In Hawai’i he was chairman of the annual Tri-Service Dental Symposium, providing lectures to all Oahu-based dental officers. ·He is successfully mentoring promising junior officers to follow his training path. Annually, he attends the American Association of Endodontists continuing education program and stays abreast of the latest research by keeping up with multiple endodontic publications.·He holds professional memberships with the American Dental Association, American Association of Endodontists, California Dental Association, and the San Diego County Dental Society.

 

 

 

Dr. Allen J. Moses

Dr. Allen J. Moses received his DDS degree from the University of Illinois in 1968, and then served 2 years in the United States Air Force. ·His dental practice for the past 24 years has been located in the Sears/Willis Tower, Chicago Illinois. ·He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Craniofacial Pain and the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. He authored the book, “Controversy in Temporomandibular Disorders: Clinician’s Guide to Critical Thinking”, has published over 40 scientific papers and has taught in 12 different countries. Dr. Moses holds a faculty appointment as an assistant professor at Rush University College of Medicine in the Department of Sleep Disorders and is the dental consultant in the Department of Sleep Disorders/Neurology at Northwestern University Medical School. He was the recipient of the AACP’s Haden-Stack Award in 2012, held an appointment to the United States Food and Drug Administration Dental Products Panel for over 10 years, was Book Review Editor of CRANIO for over 10 years, and is on the Editorial Advisory Board of Journal of Cranio Mandibular Practice and Sleep Diagnosis and Therapy. He is the inventor of The Moses® sleep apnea and snoring appliance and co-inventor of The Moses Bite Shims.

 

Joshua Gindea, DDS

Dr. Guy Levi obtained his dental medicine degree from Tel Aviv University.

He is the founder of Dental Training Center in Israel where he is conducting postgraduate courses in basic and advanced implant dentistry.

He is well recognized for his dedication in providing continued education bringing more than 20 years of clinical experience in cosmetic dentistry and full mouth reconstruction, including surgical placement and prosthetic restoration of dental implants. Dr. Levi maintains a private practice in Encino, California.

Clarice S. Law, DMD, MS is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Sections of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics at UCLA School of Dentistry. Dr Law received her DMD from Harvard School of Dental Medicine and completed specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics at UCLA School of Dentistry. As a full-time faculty member at UCLA, she teaches both Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics to dental students and residents. Her clinical teaching responsibilities and service to professional organizations focus on interceptive orthodontics. Most notable are contributions to the growth and development and orthodontics sections of the upcoming Handbook of Pediatric Dentistry, Practical Reviews in Pediatric Dentistry, and Oakstone’s Foundations in Pediatric Dentistry online/DVD essential review course. On the other hand, as the daughter of a psychologist, she has always been interested in human behavior and has made it a focus of scholarly activity. She has authored two review articles on behavior guidance for the CDA Journal and thought she was getting quite proficient in non-pharmacological behavior guidance until her own children were born, refocusing her research on the influence of contemporary parenting on pediatric behavior guidance in the dental setting. Professional presentations on this topic include a String of Pearls presentation at the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry’s Annual Meeting and a half-day continuing education course for the Colorado Springs Dental Society. Dr Law is very happy to have the opportunity to share her experiences with the Los Angeles Dental Meeting community.

Diafanización de piezas dentales para uso enseñanza-aprendizaje del sistema de conductos radiculares. - Spanish

La diafanización dental es una técnica que permite transformar un diente natural (in Vitro) en transparente total. Utilizando soluciones químicas para lograr dicha transparencia.

La diafanización de los dientes permite tener un conocimiento real de los conductos radiculares y  su morfología, estableciendo que no solo existe un conducto principal, permitiendo visualizar la complejidad del sistema de conductos radiculares sobre todo a nivel apical.

El proceso de la técnica de diafanización para uso enseñanza-aprendizaje es útil para los alumnos de licenciatura y posgrado en el manejo de los tratamientos endodónticos y la preservación de los órganos dentales en boca.

Impacto de los hábitos alimenticios en el desarrollo de caries dental. - Spanish

Se ha restado importancia al factor dietético como etiología de caries, una buena dieta mejora la salud general y oral, se ha encontrado una relación íntima entre la obesidad y factores socioeconómicos como causa del aumento de riesgo de caries y una baja calidad de hueso, ligamento periodontal, así como retraso en la erupción dental.

Deben adquirirse hábitos como tener un cepillado bucal tres veces por día, tomar suficiente agua, evitar en lo posible la ingesta de alimentos azucarados y que contengan carbohidratos entre comidas, hacer deporte, así como cambiar los snacks por otros como: frutos secos, arándanos y quesos que contengan proteínas, grasas naturales a cambio de azúcares e hidratos de carbono.

Membranas reabsorbibles y no reabsorbibles en Periodoncia - Spanish

Al perderse un diente, se produce una reabsorción de la cortical vestibular que, dificulta la colocación de implantes. La regeneración ósea guiada (ROG), con o sin material de relleno es una alternativa de tratamiento. La ROG consiste en el uso de materiales de barrera para conseguir la regeneración ósea, impidiendo la invasión del defecto óseo por células de tejidos competitivos. Debido a sus características físicas y biológicas el material usado en implantología son las membranas. De acuerdo a su capacidad de reabsorción las membranas se dividen en reabsorbibles y no reabsorbibles.
